Jewelry-Buying Tips for Clueless Men

"Boys have their cars, their game consoles and their plasma TVs. And what about girls then? Jewelry, jewelry and more jewelry.

Marilyn Monroe once sang that "diamonds are a girl's best friend". The truth is, girls like pearls, gold wedding rings, antique ruby earrings and anything shiny and pretty too. Jewelry, you men ought to know, has the power to enchant, enthrall and amuse women. They are the best birthday, Valentine's, Christmas and anniversary gift. Couple it with sincere apologies and a beautiful necklace becomes the perfect "peace offering" too.

So just how do you choose the perfect jewelry? What are the things you should look for when buying one for your girl? Here are some tips you can follow:

• When choosing the jewelry you want to purchase, consider the personality of the girl you are buying the jewelry for. While it is true that girls like jewelry in general, getting a piece that really suits our tastes and personality makes the gift more special. For an easier and safer choice, consider giving her something with her birthstone.

• Take time when purchasing your jewelry. Be sure you have thoroughly inspected the jewelry for any cracks, scratches and other damages. After all, the lucky woman who's going to get your gift deserves nothing less than perfection, right?

• There are many scammers out there trying to pass their cubic zirconiums as diamonds or their $2-drugstore jewelry as antique earrings, so be sure that you only buy your jewelry from trusted stores. Remember that if a deal seems too good to be true, then it probably is.

• If you're going all out and decided to buy your girl a diamond, know that the things you have to carefully look at are color, cut and clarity. A good diamond (which is mostly colorless but can also come in pink, yellow and other colors) is perfectly cut and absolutely clear.

• Different stones and gems signify different things. Pearls exude elegance, diamonds perfection and ageless beauty. Ask your jeweler suggestions for the appropriate gift to ensure that you are putting across the right message.

• If you're surprising your girl with an engagement or wedding ring, be sure you know her ring size before you buy the jewelry first. There really is nothing as anti-climactic as getting a ring that is either too small or too big.

• After deciding the design you want, have the jewelry assessed by an independent party before you pay for it. It's and added hassle, yes, but remember that it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Whether you are looking for the most beautiful wedding ring for your future bride or antique earrings for you mom, remember to keep all these tips.

About Claddagh Rings

Most engagement and wedding rings in the market carry little significance in itself beyond when they were given and what they are for. Some rings, however, are by nature symbolic. Such is the case in a Claddagh ring. Claddagh rings originated from Ireland in the village of The Claddagh in Galway. These rings are popular among friends, unmarried couples and married couples alike.

Claddagh rings are Irish jewelry designs consisting of two hands holding a heart with a crown topping it. Every one of these symbols have deep significance. The two hands represent friendship while the heart represents love and the crown symbolizes loyalty. Because of the built-in intrinsic meaning of a Claddagh ring, couples are increasingly exchanging these types of rings during their wedding vows instead of traditional wedding bands. Traditionally, a Claddagh ring was used an outward symbol of marital status. They have grown to be used by non-Irish couples as Celtic engagement rings and Celtic wedding rings today.

Besides the intrinsic meaning of the ring's symbols, how a Claddagh ring is worn sends an important message about one's availability for a relationship. Wearing Claddagh rings incorrectly or with disregard for the way it should be worn is considered rude, especially if you are non-Irish. There is some confusion as to how a Claddagh ring should be worn and it is important to take note of the traditions behind these rings so that they are honored.

When worn on the right hand:

- With the heart facing outward or pointing toward your fingernails, it shows everyone that you are still available.

- With the heart facing inward and pointing toward your wrist shows that your heart is spoken for as in the case of an engagement. This is used as a sign of friendship prior to the wedding.

During the wedding ceremony, couples will take out the Claddagh ring and move it to their left ring finger with the hearts facing inward to show that two hearts have been joined forever.

While these rings are commonly used in Irish weddings, Claddagh rings make great gifts among good friends as well. The gifting of a Claddagh ring between friends is usually accompanied with the saying "Let love and friendship reign".

Buying a Diamond - A Simple Guide

Even before you've started budgeting for your wedding, chances are your husband to be has probably already spent a lot of money on your ring.

No two diamonds are alike and the majority of brides all want diamonds. But even though you've heard the phrase "diamonds are a girl's best friend" that doesn't necessarily mean all brides are in love with their diamonds.

Hopefully, you will be shopping for a diamond only once, so its important that you do it right and know what to look for.

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about diamonds is that a diamond is a diamond. People tend to look at the design and settings and overall look of the ring instead of considering what they are really spending the money on - which is the stone itself. The most important thing you will want to remember about buying a diamond ring is that the stone is what is most important, not the setting.

In determining the value of a diamond there is what we call the four "C's".

Cut: the diamond's shape. Some popular shapes are round, square, oval, pear, heart and marquise.

Color: the less color in a diamond, the more valuable.

Clarity: the less inclusions or birthmarks within the diamond the more valuable.

Carat: the weight or size of the diamond.

A diamond is not just a financial investment; it is also an emotional investment and one of the big ones that couples make in their lives. So if you're going to buy a stone, you will want it to be one of the prettiest ones in the room.

Once you've picked out your stone, you might want to consider taking it to a certified gemologist for an appraisal. It's much easier to appraise the stone before it is put into a setting than after. When a stone is in a setting, the color grading becomes iffy because the metal will affect the appearance and color of the diamond. You also cannot always see all of the stone because the edges can be covered with metal.

Sometimes appraisals can vary and differ from one appraiser to another. An appraisal is subjective because color and clarity grading are not perfect sciences. Often, what you will get is the opinion of the appraiser, so it may not hurt to have more than one opinion. Even in the labs when the initial grading is done, the final grading is usually the average opinion between 2 or three gemologists.

In the end, just make sure that after you have had it appraised, and if you don't like the results that you can take it back for a full refund.

What if you just want to know if your diamond is real or not? A sure way to tell is by holding up a newspaper to it. If you can read the newspaper, you don't have a real diamond. Gemologists will use what is called a diamond reader. They hold this small tool over your diamond and if it beeps, it's real.

In the early 1400's diamonds were used to represent enduring love because of their hardness. Today, giving a diamond before marriage is a tradition that has only been around for the last 100 years, but will always remain a symbol of enduring love.

Thank the Person Who Brought You Here: Your Mom

For better or worse (or really worse), she's been there to pick you up off the ground, shake the dirt off your clothes and give you a hug to make it all better.

No, it's not your fiancé, it's your Mom! She's the person who helped make you everything you are today, so before you add another important woman in your life, take some time to thank her with unique Mother's day gifts.

But how can you even begin to think of unique Mother's day gifts for your almighty mother? Well, it won't be easy, especially with your style (hello, plaid shorts and pink polo shirt do not go together!) However, you do have someone who can help you with that.

Talk to you fiancé (and her mother, if you can stand her) to get some ideas for unique Mother's day gifts. They are both female, well, you know your fiancé is a female, you're not so sure about your future mother-in-law, and can give you ideas that would impress them if they were your Mother. Ideally, some of their ideas for unique Mother's day gifts will resonate with you and you'll think of some ideas.

Also, think about what you've give her in the past. Remember that toaster? And that pair of bunny slippers? Yeah, don't get her stuff like that. She hated it, and who can blame her? The toaster burned her bread and the slippers were so ugly that she let the dog eat them.

Instead, you're looking for unique Mother's day gifts. What does she like to do? Does she enjoy the water? Give her gift certificates for scuba diving lessons.

Does she enjoy the outdoors? Treat her to a picnic in the country along with horseback riding. They have helmets, in case you fall off.

Or does she like to read? If so, give her the top 20 books on the New York Times best seller list. Those unique Mother's day gifts will keep her busy for months.

The most important word here is unique. Unique means thinking outside the ordinary, outside what the popular gift is. Save the new necklace and patriotic-patterned shirt for Christmas. Oh wait, never mind. Do not give her that, ever!

So break out your thinking cap and really spend some time thinking about what unique Mother's day gifts you can give to your Mom this year. She's been there for you through thick and thin, intelligence and stupidity and the good and bad times. Take the time to show her that you really do care once in awhile. She's worth it.

And hey, it'll win you some brownie points for when it comes time to ask for cash for your wedding!

Look no further than our website for great unique Mother's day gifts. You can also find all of those wedding essentials for your upcoming nuptials like a personalized unity candle and wedding ring pillows. Your Mother (and your fiancé) will thank you!

The Wedding Gown

The Wedding Gown

Contrary to what you may have heard or been told, not all brides have to wear a white wedding dress. It's stylish these days for brides to wear white or off-white, but the fact is a white wedding gown does not symbolize virginity, happiness or anything else really.

White wedding dresses became popular after Queen Victoria of England wore one back in the 1840s. At the time most women wore brown or black dresses, color was insignificant and they were not real concerned about buying a dress that would be worn only once. But after Queen Victoria created such a sensation, white wedding dresses became a new status symbol.

I hope that little tidbit of information helps disspell any myth about white wedding dresses.A wedding gown doesn't have to be long, flowing or even white and it doesn't have to be costly.

Look through wedding magazines or go online and just look at the various styles and fabrics. There are hundreds if not thousands of different dresses to look at. Don't be intimidated by the number of choices or the costs just find what appeals to you then try to find a bargain.

The average cost for a wedding dress is around $850 up to $1250 when shoes, veil, and undergarments are added. That's just the average so don't pay attention to it. What you actually spend on your gown depends on your personal style, taste, fabric and most importantly your ability and desire to comparison shop. Once you have chosen a style of dress, then you can compare the price at several different places, even the same place after a few months if you have the time. The point is don't buy the first dress you see unless you know it's an absolute steal or the one you can't live without.

A wedding gown purchase is an emotional one and also if your not careful your judgement can be skewed by the old "keeping up with the Jones'" mentality. Check your motive to be sure why your puchasing a particular dress. Basically I'm encouraging you to be patient in this area because it is so emotional. Plan everything down to the smallest detail, stay within your budget as best you can and trust your instincts when shopping for your wedding, especially your wedding gown.

Don't let Money Become an Issue

Don't Let Money Become an Issue

The bottom line when planning a wedding is the money. Weddings are expensive, with the budget for the average wedding at approximately $20,000 depending on which survey you look at. Wedding gowns can run five figures, and you can pay $150-$200 per-guest in some big-budget areas. Weddings are expensive and yes more than a few couples have been tempted to elope and use that cash to make a down payment on a nice house. It is just as tempting to "keep up with the Jones's" and to go all out with the ceremony, reception and honeymoon. So the key is be realistic, stay with what you value most and be able to live with yourself afterwards.

Everyone bride and groom knows their wedding dream comes with a price tag. Some choose smaller guest lists to lower the cost, and some pick a destination wedding with a few intimate friends. Others slice and dice their wedding too much and live to regret it. Then there are the fortunate among us where money is no problem. Either way good planning can save you money and headaches.

No matter how much or how little you have to spend there is really no getting around the issue of money. There is also certain things that must to be in the ceremony and will be an expense, such as the rehearsal dinner, officiant, the wedding gown, special music, the reception, you get the gist I'm sure so let's look at the rules of each families responsibilities according to tradition.

Things have changed a little in the last few decades. It used to be the brides family payed for nearly everything. Now it is acceptable for the expenses to be more evenly divided and some if not most weddings are customized to fit the needs and desires of the bride and groom.

Basically the rules are changing dramatically and as you might guess so are the costs.

Tthe following is a traditional list of who is responsible for what. Keep in mind these are not etched in stone so feel free follow it or just use it as a guideline.

What the Bride pays for:

Groom's wedding ring

Groom's gift

Bridal attendants' gifts

Accommodations for the traveling bridal party members

What the Groom pays for:

Brides engagement ring

Brides wedding ring

Brides wedding gift

His own wedding day wardrobe

Gifts for the male attendant

Brides bouquet

Corsages for mothers

Marriage license

Officiant fee

Honeymoon

What the Brides Family pays for:

Wedding coordinator

Ceremony cost

Entire cost of reception (catering, cake, entertainment, beverages, etc)

Brides attire

Wedding gift

Wedding announcements and invitations (including postage)

Bouquets for bridesmaids

Photography and /or videography

Favors

What the Groom's famly pays for:

Rehearsal expenses

Rehearsal dinner

This is the traditional structure of how each party pays for their part of the wedding.

Just keep in mind who pays for what is very flexible and very well might depend on who has the money. Remember to be polite, grateful and smile a lot, because the wedding is just the beginning of a life together.

Wedding Day Schedule

Wedding Day Schedule

I'll bet of all the things on your mind a wedding day schedule is not on  the top of your list, but it should be! And I'll show you why.

The wedding day schedule is the second most important  document  right behind your invitation that your wedding party and vendors will receive.

To the one planning an event, what to do and when to do it, is simple  and probably even memorized by that person, but to the players it is    sometimes like trying to read an unknown foreign language. So,    everything that is to be done, and  the names of the ones doing it will be   included in the wedding day schedule right down to when the vendors arrive  and who cleans up afterward.

Remember, whether you hire a wedding planner or not, the wedding  day schedule is a necessary document that will need to printed and sent to  all the wedding party including the parents of the bride and groom. It is also  comprehensive in that no detail be left to memory, that is a recipe for disaster  especially in a big wedding. If it's not on the schedule it won't happen at least  not in the way you want it to. Things like who will escort the mothers to their  seats, when the music starts, what is to be played, etc...

Don't let this boggle your mind. Just start thinking of the wedding in  segments. This will make it much easier to begin the schedule and keep in  mind it will be completed over a period of weeks or months. As you begin  thinking about your wedding, start with the parts you already have some  information.

Begin by taking a sheet of paper label it "Wedding Day Schedule". In  the upper right corner put the date as a header and each time you make an  entry or print it out (if you're doing this on your home computer) you can keep  up with the last time you made an entry or update. In the left hand margin  write  "Rehearsal" and leave some space name and address. Under that   write "Time" and "Phone number". Then at the top of the page in the center  write "Wedding Day Schedule".

Now in the left margin create a column for time and to the right of each  time slot will be a place to explain the activity for that specific time. Now   make a list of events, in the order they will occur, and write them in the right  column. The time slot will be filled in once you have contracted with each  vendor.

Now you have a place to write down the events in chronological   order. You should be well own your way to at least having a written record of  your entire wedding from Rehearsal to Reception and I hope that is a comforting place to be.     ? ? ?

Music for Your Wedding Ceremony

Music for Your Wedding Ceremonyand Reception

Music is without a doubt an essential part of any  wedding ceremony.  Just what effect or mood you want is up to your personal taste.

Some people like the traditional sound of the classics while others are  more into contemporary, pop  and cultural music. We will consider both of  these ideas and look at the different mood each may capture.

Keep the big picture of what the ceremony and reception look like in  your mind and then choose what type of atmosphere you would like to put  forth.  Also,  an important reminder is deciding  who or what will play the   music   The music is there to enhance the exchange of vows not the other  way around.  I have been to weddings where the vows seemed an after   thought. So be careful to choose the appropriate type music and amount of  music. Also bear in mind live music is an option not a must. Music on tape or  CD will give you the luxury getting exactly what you want and it is less   expensive than a band/orchestra etc...

The location you choose will probably set the tone in the first place. If  you want a solemn church setting then the music you pick will preferably fit  that venue. On the other hand an informal setting such as  an outdoor affair  will most likely dictate what music will be played, although this is not etched  in stone.

The 4 main parts of the ceremony:  the prelude, processional,   interlude and  recessional.

The prelude will set the stage and also let people know that shortly  the ceremony will begin. Well chosen prelude music will also entertain your  guests and should not be distracting. The prelude should begin

approximately 30 minutes before the time on your invitations.

The processional is special in that the bride enters to it and therefore  should be different and somewhat louder so as to be distinguished from the  other music. This part of the music can be as traditional or contemporary as  you prefer. There are no rules here.  A lot of people feel that Wagner's  "Bridal Chorus" is very appropriate here as it is the most traditional wedding  march, but keep in mind that many brides choose non-traditional and very  contemporary songs for this purpose so try to think outside the box or don't   think that is the only choice you have.

The interlude is just a fancy word for the music you have    chosen for special moments you want to emphasize and songs that have  special meaning to you and you fiance`. Again don't fear non-traditional   music here.  My wife had a good friend sing "The Lord's Prayer" while   playing a guitar at our wedding.  Just remember that any music that is played ,  you will have to stand there and listen, too.

Then after the ceremony you still have to walk out so usually the   recessional is the same song as the processional. But again you needn't   adhere to tradition here, so you can have any song you want.

The reception is a horse of a different color so to speak, as far as the  music goes. There are more and more couples having long receptions   following the wedding ceremony.  For many a live band is the only thing that  will do, if your budget will stand it. If not, consider hiring a DJ.  They aren't  cheap and they are all not the same so verify what their specialty is and   make sure they fit your budget and taste. You don't want to make a   mistake here so be careful and take your time choosing a talented DJ, one  that not only fits your taste but has a little taste themselves.

I hope this article has helped your wedding plans. Just remember, this  is your wedding. Be open to suggestions but also don't be afraid to put your  personal touch on it with your musical choices.

Is a Consultant Necessary?

Is a Consultant Necessary?

Before you say "I don't need a wedding consultant, thank you very   much", let me ask you a quick question or two.

When you don't feel good you seek a doctor's advice, right?  Or when  you have a legal dilemma, you probably will go see a lawyer,  and if you   want financial advice you seek out a financial planner, correct?

Well,  here's a news flash,  those professionals are all basically   consultants,  wouldn't you agree?  So lets just say to keep from having a   wedding dilemma you merely consider hiring a professional wedding   consultant,  because weddings can be very stressful especially when you  are trying to please a lot of people all at once and you want to stay within   your budget.

Like aforementioned, weddings can be stressful and totally time   consuming.  To determine if you should seek the services of a professional  wedding consultant, sit down with all parties concerned and see if you have  the means to hire competent vendors.  Also consider what the wedding will  cost within a reasonable budget.  Will you be able to arrange a schedule so  your vendors, wedding party, and parents know when and where  to do their  assigned parts?

Yes,  wedding consultants have a fee, but sometimes they can   actually save you some of your hard earned money.  A young lady who   works with my wife recently got married and she of course handled all of her  wedding arrangements. She told my wife about all the money her and her  fiance paid for the DJ.  They agreed to pay $400 for this guy to play   music at their reception and he had over booked so he called her the week  of the wedding and cancelled. So there she was having to book another DJ  at the  last minute and not surprisingly had to pay $600 more plus all the   stress. Do you think a DJ would have done that to a professional wedding  consultant?  Probably not.  So with that one example you can see how easily  it is to have unplanned expenditures.

After talking over the need for a professional wedding consultant, you  will need to discuss whether or not  you can afford one. Because this is a  formal occasion, not to mention the most important day of your life, you have  only shot to get it right.

So, do you want to spend all of your free time putting this whole thing  together yourself with little or no opportunities to enjoy the experience or   maybe hire someone to take on the responsibility for the details freeing you  up to relish the event.

With that said, let's look at some tips on choosing a competent   professional wedding consultant.  I don't throw out the term "professional"  loosely because there are incompetent  wedding consultants out there. For  instance, the woman who after planning her own wedding, where everything  went perfectly, thinks she is now a pro and gets business cards and a sign  and basically becomes an accident looking for place to happen.

To find out if the consultant is competent, ask where they received   their training. Then you can check out the agency or organization simply by  asking for the phone number. If the state of residence requires a license that  can be verified by contacting the appropriate state agency.

For further assistance find vendors in your area and ask them who  they have worked with in the past. Their opinions are just that their opinions, but they can give you a good start.

This article was written to give you information on why you might want  to consider hiring a professional wedding consultant,  not to promote them. Just be aware there are always people ready to take advantage of you. Be  diligent do your homework and remember, if it sounds to good to be true it  probably is.

Helpful Hints for Choosing a Ring

Helpful Hints for Choosing a Ring

Traditionally, the engagement ring is a gift from the groom-to-be to his  fiance` when she accepts his marriage proposal. Now days, more and more   women prefer to help choose the ring instead of being surprised with   something not exactly to their liking, considering the fact she will wear it for a  long time.  The purchase of the ring could be a joint decision, especially if   there is a house or other major purchase in the near future.

No matter how involved you are in the selection of the ring, you will  not be responsible for paying for it. Also, in the unfortunate event the   wedding is called off, you will be asked to return the ring plus any other   jewelry you have been given.

If price is a major concern, your fiance` can go to the jeweler of his  choice, preselect several rings in his price range and then the two of you can  go together at a later date to pick out the one you prefer. Then you both will  be in on the selection and the price.

The diamond has been the engagement ring stone of choice for many  years now, but any stone is appropriate. You will find that diamonds are very  expensive, especially ones of high quality. Other stones are just as   appealing and far less costly, such as sapphires, opals and pearls. Many  women like to wear their birthstones. The following chart shows these. ?

                    January    Garnet

                        February   Amethyst

                        March     Aquamarine

                        April     Diamond

                        May   Emerald

                        June    Pearl

                        July     Ruby

                        August   Sardonyx

                        September   Sapphire

                        October   Opal

                        November   Topaz

                        December   Turquoise

Knowing something about what your shopping for is never a bad   idea.Diamonds and precious stones are the same, so jewelers suggest that  you do a little research before before you shop.

A good place to start is the four C's, clarity, cut, color, and carat. Clarity   for instance, is the absence of any serious flaws revealed under    magnification. Cut refers to the shape of the stone, some are more valuable  than others. Some of the more popular shapes are marquise, oval and   emerald. Color refers to the hue of the stone. For instance, diamonds   have several distinguishable tints. And of course, carat refers to the weight of  gem.  Knowing these four things will make you a much better more informed  shopper. A good rule of thumb is to buy the best stone you can afford from a  dealer you trust.

Choosing an Officiant

Choosing an Officiant

In the past choosing a minister to perform the wedding vows was apparent to everyone based on the commonality of religions. Now it seems more acceptible for people to marry outside their particluar belief system, which sometimes leads to a little confusion on who will officiate the ceremony. Some want a spiritually meaningful ceremony but not too sentimental. Others prefer something a bit more personal than a civil service

.

In America, the state and the church are the two authorities dictating the content of a wedding ceremony. Anyone getting married in the United States must comply with the laws of the particular state in which they are being wed. Check with local town hall or city clerk to find out what the specific laws are in your state. If they choose to marry in a church there are also certain guidelines that apply as well which they can find out from their clergy.

Just because a person calls themselves a Protestant, Catholic, Buddhist or Muslim does not mean that person is a devout believer. A lot are, but the point is some have drifted away from the religion of their youth and are caught up in the religious preferences of family members and in the effort to please others, lose track of what they really want in their wedding.

It's alright if you include religious messages in your ceremony or you don't, all I'm suggesting here is have a valid reason either way.

There are simply more options these days as to who you can choose as your officiant.

Some pastors, priests and rabbi's require pre-marital counselling and if you cannot or will not fulfill this you will find yourself looking for someone else to officiate your ceremony. One option is to use the services of a interfaith minister with whom you can customize the ceremony to your own beliefs. Some are Christian interfaith ministers, while others honor all religious and

spiritual traditions, while yet others will perform outside of the context of a church. They will be harder to locate due to the fact they are not affiliated with a congregation or church building. Bridal consultants or Wedding coordinators in your area can assist you in finding a local interfaith minister.

When you do locate a person willing to work with you, don't be afraid to ask questions, such as are they flexible and creative, are they open to suggestions about the vows, what role do they usually take concerning the rehersal and fees - flat rate or extra for traveling. Remember this is YOUR wedding, a time for you to enjoy and relish the rest of you life. The officiant is there to enhance the ceremony so you should feel comfortable around him or her

Bride's Day

Bride's Day

The bride to be often hears the term "it's your day" and often begins to  think it is a carte blanche to do whatever her little heart desires without much  consideration for others.  Don't fall for this temptation.

A wedding is a merging of two "families" rather than just two people  so the bride,  who might begin to think only her opinion counts or she has  the last word on every issue, comes to realize real quick the art of    compromise.  With the coming together of these two families there is always  some friction and differing opinions.

So how does the bride juggle her high expectations and the wants  and needs of others including her mother, soon to be mother-in-law, fiance,  not to mention her attendants, caterers, and various service providers?  How  does she keep everyone smiling?

She is tactful, listening to everyone's suggestions and complaints. This   makes everyone feel they are a vital part of the planning and their opinions  matter.

She is polite, thanking everyone for their effort and time spent even if it is   seemingly inconsequential.

She compromises at every opportunity,  because she takes into    consideration others feelings and suggestions as just as important as her      own.

She knows where to turn when all else fails, etiquette books, the ultimate   authority to resolve disagreements.

She keeps a smile on her face through the good, bad and the ugly.

These suggestions, if followed, have a strange result.  As the bride  focuses on others needs, she finds she is happier and more content, too.

Celtic Engagement Rings For Marriage Proposals

Ready to make the commitment in getting married to the love of your life? It's quite normal if you feel some jitters or nervousness. Proposing is the first step in telling your fiance that you are ready to make a commitment to her beyond simply words. Marriage is a huge milestone for anyone to take and knowing that you have chosen the right life partner is crucial to one's well-being and life success.

You may already have visions of how a perfect proposal will look like. It could be the special place that the both of you first met or it could be dinner at a upscale restaurant. Some have even proposed while skydiving. Whatever your proposal preparation plans are, you definitely want to ensure everything is perfect.

Before any proper proposal can be made, you will need to buy an engagement ring. While the tradition of getting down on one knee and proposing with a diamond engagement ring goes back a long time, it is actually a fairly recent tradition. Betrothal rings were a custom inherited from the Romans. During the 13th century, the practice grew in popularity to become a common custom of Christian marriage ceremonies. In fact, the first known diamond engagement ring was commissioned by the Archduke Maximilian of Austria in 1477 for Mary of Burgundy. Before the late 19th century and the discovery of mines in South Africa, the prices of diamonds were considerably more expensive than today and therefore only affordable to the wealthy. In the late 1800s, the newfound diamond mines in South Africa contributed to the drop in diamond prices. With these precious diamond gemstones within affordable levels for many Americans, it drove demand and people began to give diamond engagement rings more and more. Even so, the use of diamonds in engagement rings and wedding rings didn't become really popular until the 1930s, when De Beers went on a full-scale marketing campaign to target the American public. From then onwards, history was made and the now popular coined phrase "A Diamond is Forever" became emblazoned on the minds of the multitude.

The use of diamond engagement rings and diamond wedding rings are regarded by many to be a symbol of financial commitment from the groom. While the purchase is budget driven on the groom's end, many women consider an engagement ring an outward symbol of your desire to marry your partner. Cutting corners and going cheap on an engagement ring definitely sends the wrong message to your fiance.

There are lots of choices in engagement rings to choose from. Deciding on what kind of engagement rings to buy from the many options available can be confusing. To assist you in making a more informed decision, one should consider the four factors contributing to the overall cost of the diamond engagement ring. They are:

1. Ring Design

2. Any Deep Meaning in the Ring Design

3. Precious Metal Used

4. Carat Size of Diamond

When it comes to ring designs, you may choose contemporary ring designs which are the fashionable ring designs of the day or the time-tested ring designs of the past. Modern ring designs offer the latest trend-seeker an outlet to express their individualism. Ring designs of the past derived from the past like Celtic rings ensure that the ring will transcend many generations and will be passed down without losing any of its luster and attractiveness. Celtic engagement rings have grown increasingly popular due to the deep meanings associated with its ring designs, many of which were extracted from ancient manuscripts. Because each ring is individually handcrafted oftentimes by skilled Irish jewelers to specifications rather than mass-produced, the cost of Celtic rings will be slightly higher. Although the mass-market contemporary ring may be cheaper today, it may not the best best investment in the long run because the ring will be valued on it's precious metal and gemstone only rather than taking the whole look of the ring and the materials used into determination of the cost. A ring with lots of meaning associated with it as with Celtic jewelry tends to continue fetching higher prices going forward.

The third factor to consider in an engagement ring is the precious metal used. Yellow gold is the overall favorite but white gold is gaining ground today because it resembles platinum, a harder metal that's more expensive. White gold engagement rings has advantages also in that it is very easy to match with any fashion ensemble compared to yellow gold engagement jewelry.

Fourth, the carat size of the diamond. This contributes to a huge portion of the overall engagement ring cost. Just to give you a feel of what market prices are like for diamond engagement rings, studies conducted by the Diamond Information Center (DIC) revealed that the typical diamond engagement ring had an average ticket price of $3,200 in 2006. With prices like these, it is no wonder that engagement rings are treated as a symbol of financial commitment. Even though most couples marry out of love, it is important to note that the male's financial capability is still a consideration factor for females in marriages despite gender equality. The carat size of the diamond is one of the benchmarks used in society of high stature. A large diamond sends the message that you will be able to take care of her long after the wedding.

Romantic Proposals – Surprise Her With A Beautiful Engagement Ring

I've sold thousands of engagement rings during my 20 year career in the jewelry business and with that I've gained intimate knowledge of what works when creating a memorable proposal. Most men think that a women's only concern is the ring – how big it is, what shape, precious metal type, etc. While every woman wants their engagement ring to be something they'll always cherish, they do want a proposal story to tell their grandchildren. After you propose, your girlfriend's family and friends will ask two questions – "Can I see the ring?" & "How did he propose?" Now that's pressure but it doesn't need to be if you follow some rules of engagement, no pun intended.

Surprise Her

Men have a hard time picking an engagement ring for their future fiancé and rightfully so. After all, how many times in your life have you purchased an engagement ring? With that being said, 50% of guys thinking about popping the question will bring their girlfriends with them to help pick the engagement ring. This can be helpful in finding out what she really is hoping for but sometimes it really hurts the romanticism of the event. The women that are most excited always seem to be the ones that were completely surprised when receiving the ring. There's no substitute for getting down on one knee in front of your unsuspecting bride and presenting a ring that you've selected on your own. It shows that you're excited enough about getting married to do it without help and that you want it to be a special time for her.

It's not always easy for you to decide which ring is the one she'll fall in love with but you can get the job done a lot easier than you think. First thing you should know is that there's tons of information at your fingertips and you don't even know it. Look to her lifestyle choices, clothing, and her shopping habits to determine what she would like for a ring. Ring styles are created with the wearer in mind just like clothing; some people are bold and outgoing and prefer clothing & jewelry that matches. This type of person would hope for a ring that's a unique style and has a bold fresh look. You can get ideas for ring styles at .An active person would want a ring that won't be obtrusive or get caught on things. Traditional women tend to choose classic designs like round solitaire engagement rings.

If you still can't decide what she would like then ask her friends or family for their help. Women spend time discussing jewelry choices with one another, especially when people in their circle of influence become engaged. Another good approach is to look for opportune times to discuss the ring without tipping her off. When you see an advertisement in a magazine, the internet, or on television; comment on the rings and then ask her for what she thinks about them. Women's magazines are a wonderful tool to do this because there many jewelry advertisements in them.

Style Choices:

Classic/Traditional

Round Solitaire

Tiffany Style

3 Stone Settings

Bold/Contemporary

Tension Set

Thicker Settings with Multiple Diamonds

Designer Diamond Shapes

You'll also need her ring size before going to the jewelry store to begin shopping. There are a couple of things you can do to get her size without tipping her off. First, find a ring that she wears on her ring finger and bring it with you to the jewelry store. The jeweler can measure the size of the ring to determine the right fit for her engagement ring. If you're concerned that she'll become upset because her ring is missing, then you can trace the inside of the ring with a pen and take the inside measurement to the jeweler. In some cases you won't get the perfect fit on the first try, so be sure to ask the jeweler if the ring you choose can be sized in case it doesn't fit properly.

Your engagement will be magical and memorable if you take the time to prepare for the engagement ring purchase. Take it from someone who has worked with thousands of engaged couples, do it on your own for the most romantic proposal possible.

Diamond Jewelry Appraisals - Are they Worth It?

When you buy diamond jewelry such as diamond rings, diamond pendants, necklaces, or tennis bracelets, you're not only buying a product, you're investing in an item with tremendous value for now and the future. You can protect your investment by getting a certified diamond appraisal. Here are some benefits of appraisals and how they work.

Secure Proper Insurance for Your Diamond Jewelry

Since diamond jewelry is considered to be a financial investment, it's wise to include it in your property insurance. Your insurance company will likely require a written description of the jewelry item. A diamond appraisal will define the specifics of your jewelry such as the weight in carats, cut size and shape, clarity, and appraised value. A photo of your diamond jewelry is included with your appraisal as well. Many appraisals today allow for three-year updates to update the value of your jewelry according to the current market since jewelry prices can rise and fall with the economy.

When applying for insurance, you'll know exactly what the value is and how much coverage to obtain if you have a certified appraisal. If your jewelry is damaged or stolen, you'll be able to replace it according to its actual value.

Selling Your Diamond Jewelry

In the event that you must sell your diamond jewelry, an appraisal will enable you to get top-dollar for your jewelry. You cannot accurately price your jewelry in this ever-changing market without a certified appraisal. What you paid for the diamond five years ago might be minimal compared to what it's worth now. On the other hand, the value might have gone down as well. You'll never know for sure unless you get an appraisal.

What Type of Appraisal?

It's best to get a certified appraisal from a Graduate Gemologist, particularly for diamonds, a person who has a Gemologist Institute of America (GIA) degree specializing in diamonds. This guarantees that your appraisal is accurate and will provide multiple benefits when obtaining insurance or reselling the diamond jewelry later.

Where to Get Appraisals

You can locate a nearby gemologist by asking your local jeweler or by checking in the phone book or online. Some jewelry stores have an in-house appraiser who appraises jewelry for the store and its customers. Ask about qualifications before paying an appraiser.

Special Appraisal Offerings

When searching for diamond jewelry, you'll find that some companies offer a free diamond jewelry appraisal with your purchase. This is a tremendous value-added service that can save you time and money. Once again, be sure the appraisal is performed by someone with a GIA degree.

You can usually find these types of offers online. Jewelry stores online offer a great selection and the convenience of shopping from your own home computer. You can shop for many jewelry items such as diamond rings, tennis bracelets, wedding rings, gold chains, circle pendants, diamond pendants, cluster rings, and more while never leaving your home!

Use these diamond jewelry appraisal tips to ensure peace of mind and to get the most value and enjoyment from your jewelry.

The Ancient Traditional Look of Celtic Wedding Rings has a Story to Tell

One of the more important aspects of a wedding is the rings that are to be worn by the bride and the groom. To let them show their married state there are many designs of wedding rings that can be bought. While these are all beautiful sometimes it is nice to be wearing a ring with a distinctive design. One type of wedding ring that can give you this air of distinction is that of Celtic wedding rings.

These Celtic wedding rings are styled with the traditional flowing braided design that is very much a part of Celtic origins. All of the Celtic wedding rings follow the ancient traditional look that you will see in the original wedding ring styles. The main difference with the Celtic wedding rings is that they are no longer confined to being made with just gold or silver bands.

Today you can find Celtic wedding rings being made from other metals, like that of Titanium. There are also Celtic wedding rings that have been fashioned out of a metal that is blue gray in color. This ring is called a Meteorite ring. While this ring bears this name you will find that it has a shiny appearance that is somewhat rough in texture. Celtic wedding rings like this have been fashioned entirely by hand. This makes each one subtly different.

For the person who is determined that their wedding should have an entirely Celtic flavor to it, buying Claddagh Celtic wedding rings will spell out the theme of the wedding and it will show where your personal tastes lie. These Claddagh wedding rings are identified as being completely Celtic in origin and that if you are wearing one of these rings you are symbolizing your feelings for the entire world to see.

Behind the Claddagh Celtic wedding rings there is a very interesting story. The story has to do with faith, trust and love. In the Claddagh wedding ring the design is two hands that are clasping a heart. On the top of the heart there is a crown. According to the legend if this Claddagh ring is worn on the left hand and the crown is turned outwards it proclaims to the whole world that your heart is taken by a true and faithful love.

These are just a few of the many different Celtic wedding rings that you can find. You will see that all of these Celtic wedding rings are very beautiful and they give an air of ancient traditions to modern weddings. Therefore you should wear your Celtic wedding ring with pride and joy.

Discount Wedding Dresses & Cheap Wedding Dresses

Many brides-to-be are surprised to learn that they don't have to spend thousands of dollars to have the wedding dress of their dreams. Today the average wedding can cost upwards of twenty thousand dollars, an amount that many couples feel is an exorbitant cost for one single day. Finding a discounted dress is an excellent way to save a considerable amount of money that can be used for many other things, like the honeymoon!

With a little planning, perseverance, and creativity it's possible to find a bountiful supply of gorgeous wedding dresses sure to suit any bride's taste and bank account. Many brides may be put off by the term "discount" with visions of cheap materials and boring, poorly designed dresses. However, nothing could be further from the truth as there are literally thousands of elegant, beautifully designed wedding gowns just waiting to be found.

Design sample sales

These sales will be listed in bridal magazines and on many web sites. Many designers sell their samples of wedding dresses at costs far below the original sale prices. The same exact expensive gown in the most upscale boutiques and shops can be had for hundreds, if not thousands of dollars under its original price, and you'll be the only one who ever has to know that it's a designer sample.

Department stores

Every department store must clear out their inventory for each new season. Take advantage of this and shop at the right time of year. Timing is critical in finding incredible deals on bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses. Prom season comes around every spring, and in the weeks to follow, prices are slashed on every color and style of dress imaginable.

Local bridal shops, outlets, and resale stores

Many women searching for discount dresses make the mistake of bypassing local bridal boutiques that are privately owned thinking that they'll never find a good deal there. These smaller shops must also periodically liquidate their inventory just as the larger stores do, so depending on the time of year, many of these shops slash prices to make room for the next season's styles.

Don't overlook consignment shops during your search as many contain beautiful but previously worn dresses for a mere fraction of their original cost. Local newspapers often have listings of brand new gowns or dresses that were worn once for sale at bargain basement prices.

The internet

There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of web sites devoted to the glorious occasion of a wedding. From designer discounts to discontinued styles to wholesale costs, the internet offers a wealth of choices for the bride-to-be. Get cozy and be prepared to spend several hours in front of the computer as you search through the great number of mind boggling options available. Narrow down your choices by price range, color, style, and size to make your search easier.

Finding the absolute perfect gown while saving a significant amount of money does take some research and a bit of patience, but it doesn't have to be a tiresome chore. Instead think of it as a fun way to have the upper hand in keeping your wedding expenses under control while playing detective to find just the right dress. After all, starting out your new life as husband and wife under a mountain of debt is no way to begin a marriage.

How To Buy Celtic Jewelry

Celtic jewelry has a long and proud tradition. The origins of Celtic jewelry go back for centuries. Many of the best pieces of jewelry found today are made in Ireland, Scotland, Cornwall, and Wales where many of the Celts settled. As more and more people around the world discover the culture and tradition behind Celtic jewelry that are remarkable works of art, the availability of Celtic jewelry has grown to meet the growing worldwide demand.

With the popularity of these jewelry pieces came opportunists seeking to cash in on the demand for Celtic jewelry. You'll find many sellers of Celtic rings and jewelry on the marketplace today with prices ranging widely. It is important to keep in mind that you get what you pay for. Ensure that the Celtic jewelry you purchase is from an authentic Celtic jewelry maker. While the seller may not be Irish, Scottish, or British, they can still stock authentic, quality Celtic jewelry because many Celtic jewelry designers and makers export these popular jewelry pieces around the world to places like the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Keep in mind that brick and mortar jewelry stores are limited by the amount of display space and usually stock limited designs of Celtic jewelry. One of the best places to find the best selection of Celtic jewelry is on the Internet. The Internet has become a global marketplace where stores from around the world can offer a variety of items up for sale to buyers seeking these items 24 hours a day seven days a week.

If you are buying Celtic jewelry from popular auction sites like ebay, do be careful of fakes and low quality jewelry. Always buy from a reputable seller or you could lose a tidy sum of money on jewelry that isn't exactly as promised. These sellers are usually labeled as Powersellers and have been doing business on eBay for a long time with lots of positive feedback.

When buying specific Celtic jewelry that's on the higher end like Celtic engagement rings or Celtic wedding rings, it is still best to buy them from a Celtic jeweler. You will find many of them are online. By buying from a Celtic jeweler, you ensure yourself of the largest selection available since many do not necessarily stock everything seen on the site but rather custom-make many of the Celtic rings to fit the buyer. In addition to the larger selection, you also get to choose specific designs and determine how your Celtic ring will eventually look like at the end. You can pick the precious metal used to make the ring, the ring size, carat size, whether it's a mens or ladies ring, etc. If you were buying a piece found at a jewelry store in a mall, you will only be able to choose what is on hand. Many Celtic rings are also difficult to resize if they are too big because of the intricate designs on the rings so custom made rings are still the way to go.

Celtic Wedding Rings – The Perfect Alternative To Traditional Wedding Rings

A wedding ring purchase is a major part of any wedding preparations. Since it is something that will be worn for the rest of your lives, it should be something that the both of you will enjoy wearing daily. With the selection of rings available in brick-and-mortar stores as well as on the Internet, it can be a confusing task

First, consider what style of wedding ring you want. Traditional wedding rings offer the latest trendy designs for a jewelry buyer. The trouble with trendy designs is that they are fashionable at the moment. Five or ten years later, that trendy looking design may not look so great anymore. Celtic jewelry, on the other hand, is designed with timeless elegance in mind. The Celts have a rich history and tradition, especially in the area of jewelry making and designing.

The design of Celtic rings carry lots of meaning that has been passed down for centuries. These Celtic designs have survived the test of time and are remarkable works of art. Take Claddagh wedding ring designs for example. The Claddagh design consists of a heart (symbolizing love) topped by a crown (symbolizing loyalty) which are both held by two hands (symbolizing friendship). Aside from the significance behind the Claddagh design, the wearing method of the ring also carries it's own meaning. When a ring is worn on the right hand with the heart facing outward, it denotes that the wearer is available and unattached. On the other hand, if the wearer wears it on the right with the heart turned inward, it denotes that the ring wearer is already attached. If the ring is worn on the left instead of the right hand with the heart turned inward, it shows the wearer is married. You can't find the same kind of significance in traditional wedding rings which are found in Celtic wedding rings.

Now that you have narrowed the style of wedding ring you are looking for to a Celtic wedding ring, selecting a perfect Celtic wedding band is easy. The second consideration is your budget. Depending on your budget, you can choose the precious metal that will be used to make your wedding rings. Will it be yellow gold or white gold? Yellow gold is the classic metal for wedding rings but white gold is stylish and goes with most outfits as well as silver or platinum jewelry.

Lastly, you'll want to consider the precious stones that will be used with the ring. Diamonds are the overall favorites as far as Celtic wedding rings are concerned. Diamonds are not only a woman's best friend but are quickly becoming a man's as well. Diamonds are also the hardest stones and can get increasingly expensive as a larger carat is chosen. While a larger diamond always looks much more impressive and accentuates your Celtic rings further, a smaller one will do fine as well if your budget only accommodates a smaller diamond.

Elegant Celtic Wedding Rings

Now that you have popped the marriage question and got a "Yes" answer, what's next? For many, this is the start of many wedding day preparations. The planning of this special day can be a stressful experience considering the myriad of activities needing to be planned for and coordinated such as the catering, wedding ceremony, location booking, photographer, and wedding gown shopping. Being that it is an important milestone in people's lives, the preparations must be perfect with everything in it's proper place on wedding day.

While this event will come and go, the memories of the wedding day will live on. One of the symbols of the love between two people on this special day is the wedding ring. While buying wedding rings will depend on the couple's budget, it's also important to realize that a wedding ring will be the enduring symbol of a couple's love long after the champagne toasts and wedding ceremony are over. After all, a couple will have it for the rest of their lives. Thus, the decision to buy a ring should not be taken lightly and a couple should get the best wedding rings they can afford from a trusted jeweler.

As a symbol of everlasting love, what better way to represent it than with a Celtic engagement ring? Compared to traditional wedding rings, the Irish have a rich romantic and enduring Celtic jewelry tradition. Because of this, Celtic wedding bands have become an increasingly popular alternative to traditional wedding rings. Celtic wedding rings are perfect way to seal your wedding vows on this special occasion. It's easy to see why. Celtic rings are steeped in history and tradition dating back centuries. Their intricate designs or interwoven patterns throughout the metalwork denote a couple's promise to create a new life together with the one never-ending, continuous circle signifying eternal and endless love. Celtic wedding band designs are derived from Irish manuscripts such as the Book of Kells. In the past, the wearing of Celtic jewelry was an outward sign of a person's wealth and status. This resulted in many Celtic wedding rings being passed on from one generation to another becoming treasured family heirlooms.

Today, the popularity of such elegant wedding rings enable couples to purchase these Celtic rings from specialty retail jewelry stores online so there is no need to travel to Ireland to get an authentic Celtic wedding ring. Celtic rings are handmade by Irish craftspeople and are shipped all around the world. If you opt to have your wedding ring custom designed, it's best to do so early. For those couples who prefer to go for classic and timeless Celtic wedding ring designs, there are also many existing design varieties to choose from. A good online retailer like Shanore will have a wide choice of the following ring characteristics: precious metal (white gold or yellow gold), Celtic pattern, ring size, number of gemstones, size of gemstones, etc. The number of possibilities are truly endless and is completely within your control, making them timeless pieces of art that remind you and your loved one of your uncompromising love for each other.

How to choose a diamond and engagement ring?

Diamond

Diamond is a crystalline form of carbon. Its rarity makes it extremely valuable and precious. The combination of the 4Cs, namely Cut, Clarity, Carat and Colour, determines the value of a particular diamond.

Cut

While nature determines a diamond's clarity, carat weight and colour, the hand of a master craftsman is necessary to release its fire, sparkle and beauty. When a diamond is cut to good proportions, light will reflect from one mirror-

like facet to another and disperse through the top of the stone, resulting in a display of brilliance and fire.

Diamonds that are cut too deep or too shallow lose light that spills through the side or bottom. As a result, poorly cut stones will be less brilliant and beautiful and certainly less valuable. A well cut or faceted diamond, regardless of

its shape, scintillates with fire and light, offering the greatest brilliance.

Ideal Cut Diamond

Every angle, proportion, and facet in a cut diamond contributes to its light reflection, so variations in any or all of them have a definite effect on the beauty of the diamond. An Ideal Cut round brilliant diamond is one which is cut to

an exact mathematical proportions and angles, to create a diamond of irresistible beauty.

Super Ideal Cut Diamond

Masterly craftsmen continuously strive to obtain the most ideal cut to release the maximum brilliance and fire from a diamond. The Super Ideal Cut, with the following three qualities surpasses the Ideal Cut in creating a diamond of

unequalled magnificence.

Super Ideal Cut Diamond

Perfect Cut Proportion

Super ideal cut proportion is similar to the ideal cut proportion, except in the extra 1% on the table length and the depth.

Perfect Symmetry

Perfect Symmetry refers to the identical and exact size and angle placement of each facet. Only with this quality, can the diamond release an even radiance. Without perfect symmetry, the facets cannot reflect the same level of

brightness, which reduces the diamond's brilliance.

Perfect Polish

Polish refers to the finishing of a diamond. The surface of a perfectly polished diamond is flat and smooth, allowing light to reflect evenly through every facet.

Super Ideal Cut Diamond

When a diamond meets all of the above three criteria, 8 perfect arrows and 8 perfect hearts can be observed with a special scope. These are significant proofs of a super ideal cut diamond.

Clarity

The greater a diamond's clarity, the more brilliant, valuable and rare it is. Virtually all diamonds contain identifying characteristics, yet many are invisible to the naked eye. Under the scrutiny of a jeweller's 10X magnifier, natural

phenomena called inclusions may be seen. These are nature's birthmarks.

The number, colour, type, size and position of the birthmarks affect a diamond's value. Major inclusions can interfere with the path of light that travels through a diamond, diminishing its brilliance and sparkle and therefore its value.

Carat

Carat is the measurement of a diamond's weight.

One carat is equal to 0.2 gram or 100 points. Because large diamonds are found relatively infrequently in nature, diamonds' worth go up almost exponentially with their weight.

Colour

Diamonds can be classified into "colourless diamonds" and "fancy coloured diamonds". Colourless diamonds are graded by colour, starting at D and continuing through the alphabet. Truly colourless stones, graded D, are treasured

for their rarity and value, and are highest in quality. Fancy coloured diamonds in well defined colours that include red, pink, blue, green and canary yellow are particularly rare and very highly priced.

Shape

Diamonds are cut in many fancy shapes. As the shape and distribution of inclusions vary with each raw stone, diamonds are cut into different shapes in order to avoid flaws and to minimize the wastage. People often choose

different shapes according to their own preferences. The following are the most popular shapes in the market:

Round Brilliant

The round brilliant cut diamond is by far the most popular shape, and accounts for about 3 out of 4 diamonds purchased today. It is designed to produce the greatest brilliance and reflection of light.

Princess

Princess cut is the second most popular shape on the market. Its table appears as a square-like rectangular shape. The pavilion of princess shape is cut according to that of the round brilliant, which increases the brilliance of the

diamond but also increases the use of materials.

Oval

The Oval shape is an extension of round brilliant, it looks larger than its actual size because of the elongated shape. Rings set with oval diamonds are suitable for ladies with small hands or shorter fingers.

Heart

Heart shape is a symbol of romance. It bears some similarity to the pear shape. To avoid significant inclusions, the cutter often prefers cutting the heart shape to the pear shape. This shape is seen frequently in pendants, but is suitable

for most any purpose.

Emerald

The Emerald cut is not a brilliant cut, but is called a step cut. Step cuts are comprised of larger facets, which act like mirrors. Because of the angle, size and shape of the facets, the emerald cut shows less brilliance and fire than the

brilliant cut diamonds. However, the emerald cut stone reveals a classic and aristocratic elegance and beauty not seen in other cuts. Because of the open and large nature of the facets, it is highly recommended that you consider

staying at higher colour and clarity grades.

Marquise

An elongated shape with 2 pointed ends just like the eye of a horse. This special shape is especially suitable for people with unique style.

Pear

Pear shape combines the best of oval and marquise but the appearance is much softer. Pear shaped diamond ring can accentuate long and slender fingers. It is also beautiful for setting pendants and earrings.

Over 30 years on Fine Jewelry and diamond industry and worked for various multi-national and listed Jewelry retailers in Asia Pacific such as Bridal one, Chow Sang Sang, Wedding grown, BelleDiamond, Emphasis and Duo.

Trends for the Season: Celebrity Inspired Jewelry

When they walk the red carpet, celebrities make a statement. After each awards gala, popular magazines showcase the best- and worst-dressed stars, and ready-to-wear clothing designers quickly copy the best of the couture gowns and styles so the rest of us can feel like princesses. It's no surprise, then, that the latest trend in accessories is celebrity inspired jewelry.

The Most Sought After Celebrity Inspired Jewelry

When it comes to celebrity inspired jewelry, replicas of Jessica Simpson's engagement ring and wedding band are extremely popular. Regardless of the status of her marriage to Nick Lachey, the popular engagement ring replicas are gold or rhodium plated on sterling silver with a cubic zirconia pear shaped center stone and two cubic zirconia side stones. The stones come in a variety of colors, including white or clear, light blue, tanzanite, pink, yellow, and red. The replica wedding bands are available in rhodium plated, yellow gold plated, or rose gold plated, encircled with over 20 cubic zirconia stones.

When she became engaged to Kevin Federline, Britney Spears chose a five-carat ring. The celebrity inspired jewelry replica may be made from 18k gold filled or sterling sliver with a cubic zirconia center stone available in clear, pink, amethyst, and blue topaz.

There's no doubt that Jennifer Lopez has exquisite taste, so replicas inspired by the engagement ring she received when she was engaged to Ben Affleck are extremely popular. In addition to the engagement ring with a square center stone, matching pendants and earrings are also the rage.

Other Jewelry Trends

In addition to celebrity inspired jewelry, three other jewelry trends stand out this season: interchangeables, pearls, and turquoise. Interchangeable jewelry is popular because of its versatility. If, for example, you have a pendant, you can switch out one gemstone for another so that the pendant complements every outfit. You might, for example, interchange black onyx for tiger-eye, mother of pearl for rose quartz, and so forth. Interchangeables not only make a fashion statement, but because of their versatility, they are an exceptionally good value.

Pearls, of course, are a staple for every season. These classic beauties are a must-have. Freshwater pearls are both affordable and a wonderful heirloom to pass on to your children and grandchildren. Pearl bracelets, pearl earrings, and pearl necklaces are timeless, and should be a part of every woman's jewelry collection.

Turquoise goes in and out of fashion, but this season, it's definitely in. Titanium Jewelry

The newest metal in the jewelry market didn't start out being intended for rings and bracelets – in fact, it wasn't even usable until the 1940's. Titanium, a pure elemental metal, was first used only in laboratory experiments and military applications – and eventually found a home in the space program. Due to its unique coloration and lightweight, yet incredibly strong properties, titanium finally found a home in the jewelry market.

Titanium was first discovered in a mineral form in 1791, in Cornwall, England. At that time, there was really no way to extract a metal from the mineral, but this changed in 1910 when a chemist was able to obtain pure titanium from an explosive reaction. Unlike other metals, titanium can't be melted out of the ore it is found in (this is the way iron is obtained, for example). A chemical reaction has to take place in order to obtain this metal, and an effective way to do this wasn't found until 1946.

Titanium is only 60% heavier than aluminum, known as the lightest practical metal, but it is twice as strong. This makes titanium perfect for applications where items have to be both strong and lightweight. In the jewelry industry, titanium quickly found a home in wedding bands. Women and men both enjoy wearing this lighter than gold wedding jewelry, and they also like the fact that it is not easily scratched or marred during wear. Titanium can also hold special meaning, as it is strong – just like most people want their marriage to be.

Titanium jewelry has evolved quickly – and today it is possible to find all manner of rings available in this metal. Many jewelers have started to colorize their titanium with other metals and alloys, creating such looks as bright blue and pink carved bands on their rings. Other titanium jewelry has been colored black by alloys, allowing for an entirely different look to this usually charcoal gray metal. Titanium rings have also been made (either channel set or tension set) with diamonds and other stones, so they have even been used as engagement rings.

Most people may think of silver and gold when they picture their wedding jewelry, but for more and more couples, titanium jewelry is taking their place. This material, less costly than gold and more unique, is starting to catch on as more and more people want to distinguish themselves from other married couples.

Green Weddings: Couples Say “I Do” To Conflict-Free Wedding Jewelry And Earth-Friendly Nuptials

In the world of engagements and wedding planning, green is the new white. From conflict-free wedding jewelry, to an environmentally-conscientious reception, with an eco-friendly honeymoon to round out the nuptials, couples are throwing out the era of Bridezilla and ushering in the age of green weddings. And it all starts with that oh-so-special wedding jewelry.

Choosing a diamond engagement ring (http://www.danforthdiamond.com) and wedding bands are incredibly personal decisions that are also becoming ethical decisions. Socially aware couples now want to ensure that their wedding jewelry selections are not linked to human rights abuses or have not negatively impacted the environment.

Conflict-free Diamonds

Until recent years, newly engaged couples were blissfully unaware that an untold number of corrupt organizations in African countries were illegally mining diamonds that are directly linked to human rights abuses.

The good news is that more than 40 nations worldwide, including the United States, now voluntarily participate in the Kimberly Process, a system that imposes stringent requirements on imports to certify that diamonds are free from conflict. 99.8% of the global production of rough diamonds is now accounted for through the Kimberly Process.

Reputable engagement and wedding jewelry retailers readily confirm the origin of any stone. Online retailers are particularly sensitive to consumer concerns regarding the genesis of their diamonds. Leading online retailers, such as Danforth Diamond, My Solitaire, and Brilliant Earth actively educate consumers by providing helpful information on their websites to ensure that accurate information is easily accessible.

Green Gold?

For those who truly want guilt-free glitter, there are a number of retailers who offer recycled gold for wedding bands and the like. Concerned about a lackluster green ring? Worry not. Recycled gold, which is melted and re-refined, is the same quality as newly-mined gold.

NoDirtyG publishes an ever-growing and impressive list of retailers who support the responsible production of gold.

Vintage jewelry is also enjoying a resurgence in popularity as brides and grooms opt to purchase estate jewelry or wear wedding rings that have been passed down from a family member.

Eco-friendly weddings aren't just for the granola crunching crowd nowadays — and conflict-free diamond engagement rings and recycled gold wedding jewelry are just the beginning. As green weddings become more mainstream, the options and price ranges are increasingly abundant.

Earth-friendly Invitations

Wedding invitations printed with soy- or vegetable-based inks on recycled paper are a mainstay for green couples. If that's not green enough for you, perhaps paperless invitations are the way to go; simply extend electronic invitations for guests who can be contacted via email. Emailed RSVPs offer an added bonus: guests are more likely to respond promptly, allowing you to accurately plan your headcount.

Location, Location, Location

A central wedding location that requires minimal travel for most guests will save on carbon emissions. Booking a venue that can host the wedding ceremony and reception will further reduce carbon emissions. Art galleries, botanical gardens, eco-friendly restaurants, hotels and parks are all excellent choices.

Here Comes the Bride

Something old, something new, something borrowed… something green? You betcha. Green brides can choose lovely, previously-worn gowns from vintage stores or gown consignment and rental shops. Brides can also turn to their family tree for a wonderfully sentimental heirloom gown. A number of designers have also embraced the eco-friendly trend and offer extravagant gowns made of hemp silk.

Wedding Favors as Decorations

Organic, locally grown flowers for bouquets and centerpieces offer a fresh, seasonal touch. Flower arrangements used at the wedding can perform double duty by being moved to the reception. Potted plants also make lovely arrangements and can be transplanted outdoors after the wedding or can serve as gifts that guests can take home.

The Gift that Keeps Giving

Portovert Magazine, the nation's first and only online publication devoted exclusively to environmentally and socially responsible weddings, and NativeEnergy offer a carbon emissions calculator that can be used to evaluate wedding-related carbon sources, including travel, guest lodging and power used at the wedding venues, which can help in the planning of a carbon-neutral wedding. You can find it here: http://www.nativeenergy.com/Splash/Portovert/portovert_wedding_calc.html.

Couples can also offset the carbon emissions produced as a result of their nuptials by making contributions to an eco organization of their choice or requesting that guests do the same in lieu of a wedding gift.

Paying it Forward

Eco-friendly tours, green hotel resorts, simple outdoor adventures, volunteer work for a preservation project — green honeymoons run the gamut and cater to a variety of preferences and budgets. From relaxing and luxuriant to active and outdoorsy, newlyweds can take their dream green vacation that celebrates the beginning of their new life together and the future of our planet.

And to think that it all began with a diamond engagement ring. Green weddings provide couples the opportunity to make a lifelong commitment to each other and to their world. Every wedding anniversary, from the "small" ones to the milestones years is an opportunity to renew that commitment for now and for years to come.

Perhaps a future generation will honor that same commitment by choosing to wear your "heirloom" wedding jewelry.

Bridal Nail Caring and Wedding Nail Art

Your wedding day will likely be the most important day in your life, or at least one of the most important days. As a result you want to look your best and the only way to do that is to put a lot of effort and time into making sure everything is just perfect. You want the perfect dress, the perfect hairstyle, and of course the perfect nails. Sometimes people leave their nails to the last minute and paint them themselves almost as an afterthought. However, bridal nail caring is incredibly important because when your hands are beautiful you will love showing off your new rings even more not to mention the photos of your hands will be stunning.

There are lots of wedding nail art ideas and you can choose whatever type of art goes with your personality as well as your dress. Some women really enjoy the conservative French manicure with nothing else while other women really like to go for a bolder look. Some nice ideas include a basic French manicure with mini pearl or diamond accents. Having an airbrushed bride and groom on your nails is another option or perhaps lace details. Basically anything you can imagine can be airbrushed or hand painted onto your nails. For instance if you are having an outside wedding that is casual and you are carrying wildflowers then you might want to have some small flowers painted onto your nails. Whatever you want you can get!

Of course, you will want to use the very best fingernail polish and the best ones are OPI nail polish as well as Creative Nail polish. Both of these brands are known for their staying power and not chipping. That means if you get your nails painted for your wedding and ask for one of these types of polish then you can bet that your nails will be gorgeous on your wedding day and for the honeymoon as well! Both OPI nail polish and Creative Nail polish are known for their staying power and not chipping. Just be sure the nail salon you visit carries these brands of nail polish and if not you may want to look for a different salon. The reason why is that these types of polish stay on your nails and don't chip or flake like cheaper polish does. Go for a salon that uses the best and you will love your nails and the way they look in pictures.

7 Things You Should Be Aware Of When Selecting Irish Wedding Bands

So you're tying the knot, and you're going to go with Irish wedding rings—fantastic! Beginning a lifetime journey with your partner will be the most important act in your whole lifetime, and there isn't any better way of showing your life long commitment than with Irish wedding rings. No matter if you're holding a fully authentic Irish wedding, or you're merely choosing Irish wedding rings for their exquisite beauty and timeless heritage, here's seven factors to keep in mind as you select your wedding rings.

Celtic wedding rings represent one of the oldest and most traditional marriage styles in existence. Their continued use reflects a desire for and appreciation of the powerful respect that ancient Celtic folkways showed marriages and the wedding ceremony. Choosing Irish wedding bands displays in a very unique fashion what your spouse means to you and your new partner in life

Although it's most common to exchange matching Celtic wedding rings, it's jperfectly alright to use distinct styles for bride and groom. You shouldn't be restricted by custom. With the huge array of styles, colors, and designs that they come in, more and more couples today feel free to select a different ring for each spouse.

Celtic jewelry is full of rich symbolism. The Claddagh wedding ring pattern includes three symbols to display the deepest bonds that join a man and a woman--a heart stands for love, a crown shows loyalty, and joined hands showing friendship. And nearly all Irish wedding rings have traditional Irish symbolism in their style. That symbolism, which is quite striking without being ostentatious, is part of the reason Irish wedding rings are now becoming more and more popular.

Irish wedding rings aren't always very expensive, despite their elegance. There are a wide variety of rings that fit almost everybody's spending limits, from high to low, without sacrificing the traditional Irish symbolism.

One of the most popular Celtic wedding rings is the Claddagh wedding ring, which stems from one of the oldest and notable romances in Celtic lore-the tale of Richard Joyce, who learned ring making after being forced into slavery, and then spurned riches and a beautiful woman to journey back to Ireland and wed his sweetheart.

You should familiarize yourself with the unbelievable variety of patterns that Irish wedding rings come in. Each one is lovely in its own way, and it's important to avoid being in a rush to pick the design that really strikes a chord with you and your fiance(e), a ring whose symbolism will impart a lifetime of memories.

Size should be another very pertinent consideration when buying your Irish wedding rings. Remember when choosing a wedding ring that you'll probably require a half size bigger than bands you're used to sporting, because wedding bands are usually wider than standard bands. In addition, most people are under the impression that a wedding ring is supposed to glide smoothly past the knuckle. That is not right, and will cause a bad fit. You'll need a little bit of friction when sliding your ring past your knuckle.

Congratulations on your marriage to your true love, and may your new life be as lovely and enduring as the Irish wedding ring has been!

Fear Not When Buying A Diamond! Use the Four C's...

A diamond is one of the biggest purchases you will make - but don't worry!

You are about to purchase a diamond. You have heard that buying a diamond can be a complicated and sometimes nerve-wracking experience. But you are determined to learn all that you need in order to ensure a successful purchase. As with all purchases, preparation and research are essential elements of the process. Remember to look for certain things in a diamond. The four most important things to look for in a diamond are its cut, clarity, color, and carat.

Why knowledge of the "Four C's" is your best friend

Often referred to as the "Four C's", a diamond's cut, clarity, color, and carat reveal to you the quality of the diamond, and hence, its appropriate value. This value should be reflected in the price. Be aware that many people who sell diamonds will try to take advantage of buyers who are not educated in the "Four C's". This is partly why you need to learn as much about them as you can.

The cut of a diamond is precisely what it sounds like - the way in which someone known as a master cutter cuts it. Remember that the attractive shape of a diamond is not the way it is originally found. It comes in a very rough form and is eventually shaped with the utmost care and precision.

A diamond's clarity is the extent to which light can pass through it. An ideal diamond will allow plenty of light to pass through. The amount of light that gets through a diamond is based on the number of inclusions naturally found in it. These inclusions are essentially birthmarks that can come in all sizes. The fewer the inclusions, the higher the value of the diamond. The best way to discover these marks is by viewing a diamond under 10x magnification. It takes a highly trained eye to identify these marks. While you may not have the training necessary to accurately label a diamond's clarity, you will benefit by studying up on the process and letting your diamond retailer know that you have a clue as to what is going on.

When it comes to a diamond's color, you may be surprised to learn that the absence of color actually makes a diamond more valuable. The less color that a diamond has, the more likely white light is to pass through it, thus resulting in a highly desired rainbow of colors. While diamonds can come in a variety of colors - such as pink, brown, or blue - try to find one that is colorless. Be prepared to pay more for a diamond that features less color.

The weight of a diamond is known as its carat. A carat is divided into 100 points. Thus, a diamond with 65 points weighs .65 carats. For obvious reasons, a diamond's carat (weight) is its most easily discovered characteristic.

Buying a diamond final thought: Don't be intimidated and don't give into any pressure to buy until you feel comfortable!

Buying a diamond can be a harrowing experience. It can be an very important personal decision and maybe, depending on the size of the diamond or diamonds, one of the more expensive purchases you will make. You want to be happy with your purchase. The experts who work in the diamond industry often intimidate people. You, however, no longer need to worry about the eventual purchase of a diamond. You understand the basics and are willing to research all of your options. Remember the "Four C's" - cut, clarity, color, and carat - of a diamond. Be willing to ask questions of your diamond retailer and don't hesitate to do more research. Most importantly, seek out an expert who has an excellent reputation in the field. Ask around to any friends or even, very politely, someone wearing a diamond similar to what you are looking for. Your ideal diamond is out there. Now take the time to find it.
